There was a time when dealers of spa covers sold them in tapered form thinking the saturation of water is cause by moisture coming from the top. They offer this sloped design of spa cover because they believe that rain or moisture falling from the top of the cover is the reason why they get saturated with water and becomes heavy. Many people also believe this is so and duped into buying this kind of spa cover. But unknowingly, this isn’t so, because hot tub covers get heavy from underneath the cover and not from the top.

In a way, the slope shape of the spa cover will keep away the rain and snow from loading its middle part. This provides protection of the cover from breaking due to the heavy load when large amount of rain and snow falls into it. Aside from that, it protects the cover from other debris that gets into it. But as to the issue of the cover getting heavy, the sloped design is not the solution. The answer lies in the materials of which the spa cover is made.

Moisture does not get into the foam from the outside but rather from its bottom. As the heated water from the spa evaporates in the form of steam, it gets into the bottom of the spa cover and is absorbed by the foam. Steam molecules get easily into the spaces between the foam because these are composed of small molecules. After a time, it gets heavy because of the saturation of the water. To avoid this, dealers should do away with the use of rigid foam in the construction of spa covers.

When the spa cover is saturated with water, it cannot function anymore in insulating the water of the spa. Added to that, water that condenses in its bottom goes back down to the water of the spa and cools it. One solution to the problem is to buy another cover to dry under the sun while the other one is in use. But this will be another expense since the cover will still break because of the moisture it absorbs daily.

Spa cap reviews have shown that SpaCap spa covers are not made of rigid foam but of air chambers that works efficiently in the insulation of the spa, doing away with the tapered design. Aside from reducing the amount of energy used by the spa by lessening re-heating of the water, the cover also last longer because it does not absorb moisture anymore. In addition to that, it doesn’t get heavy because it will not absorb moisture anymore. This also minimizes waste of having to replace the spa covers in two years because breakage is also avoided.
